The story

Boarded General Slocum with her mother Helen and her sisters Helen (5) Adella (6 months) for an Evangelist church picnic at 9:30 A.M. Few minutes later the Slocum was in flames. Most passengers risked being trapped in the burning steamboat or drowning in the river. Only her mother and baby Adella survived.
