Roosevelt Memorial Park

Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose, Pennsylvania, was established in 1928 as a park-style Jewish cemetery - a significant departure from the dense graveyards typical of the time.  Its founders aimed to create a dignified sanctuary, laying out broad roadways lined with trees, incorporating benches, water features, and spacious grounds for both beauty and accessibility.  The cemetery’s “Founders’ Circle” and elegant family plots reflect its early appeal to prominent local families, and its design pioneered the use of bronze flush memorials - an aesthetic choice that emphasized harmony between sculpture, landscape, and memory.  Over the decades, Roosevelt Memorial Park has grown to include celebrated sections such as The Ellipse Gardens - dedicated in 2007 - as well as mausoleums, private estates, and gardens honoring cremation interment.  Sculptural works by noted artist Boris Blai - including Yiskor and Chuppah - add symbolic depth and artistic heritage to the site.  Notably, the cemetery claims several firsts among Jewish cemeteries: it was among the earliest to introduce bronze flush memorials on the East Coast and the first to build a community mausoleum in a Jewish setting.  Today it continues its original mission, providing a peaceful, artful resting place that honors both tradition and innovation in memorial design.
